Thézan-lès-Béziers
Origin of the name: the name Thézan is thought to derive from the Latin name of the local owner, Tatianus or Thésus.
The Duke of Mont Morency led 3 sieges there in 1577, 1578 and 1589. He had 2 forts built (one on the tenement of the same name, the other has left no trace). After the last siege, the ramparts were dismantled and the ditches filled in. The village's motto may date from this period: "At the top of a hill, famous for its battle; Thézan proudly erected its walls".
