Puimisson
Situated near the ancient Béziers-Lacaune road, the castrum of Podio Missionis is mentioned in 1182. It subsequently shaped the circular form of the village, before being radically altered over time to become one of the most beautiful architectural ensembles of the 17th century.
Guillaume Durand, Bishop of Mende, was born in Puimisson in 1230. This Languedoc native from the lower nobility studied law in Italy and became a jurist known as speculator, canonist, politician and governor of the Papal Marches. In the 13th century, he demonstrated administrative skills that heralded the practices of the Avignon papacy.
To honour the arts, a Théâtre de verdure and a park were built in the centre of the village in the 1990s.
