Montesquieu

ChapelleChapelle

Made up of a handful of hamlets and villages nestling in a setting of holm oaks and arbutus trees, the architecture of Montesquieu bears witness to its volcanic history.

The buildings of Mas Rolland and Paders, as well as the ruins of the castle and church of Montesquieu, are all in black, the basalt that gives them their strong identity.

The hamlet of Paders is home to a little gem: the pre-Romanesque chapel of Saint-Michel, with its astonishing polychrome decoration of arches alternating between basalt, sandstone and limestone keystones.
