Vineyards on a contour line
In the 1960s, violent storms destroyed part of the Faugérois and Saint Nazaire de Ladarez vineyards. Torrential rainfall gullied the steeply sloping vines. Some owners had to bring in the harvest using winches! Landslides buried some plots. An agreement was reached between the communes of Saint Nazaire de Ladarez and the plots of Montimbert that had been set aside for scrubland. The vines were replanted following the contour lines. They play an essential ecological role (this method retains the soil and prevents gullies) and make the winegrower's work easier: each row between the rows is flat. Vines planted along contour lines create superb landscapes.
