Jane Appleton's original works "Animaux Totémiques" (Totemic Animals) explore living, popular Occitan traditions as part of the tour of the Prieuré de Cassan.
L ? The artist offers a lively, colorful interpretation of this legendary, festive bestiary.
Totemic animals are the tutelary figures of a town, a village or a community, who come to life in the form of structures animated by the inhabitants, and accompany all the high points of their lives: festivals, carnivals, celebrations?
This age-old practice is particularly alive and well in the Hérault region.
This exhibition uses the imaginary to introduce you to some twenty of these totemic animals: based on texts by Adèle Guillon, artist Jane Appleton has put into images the legend that links them to the places they inhabit.
