AOP Faugères

Grands vins de Nature

This appellation extends over 7 communes and their small hamlets, reaching altitudes of up to 500 metres.

It is also the only homogeneous schist terroir in the Languedoc, and today almost a third of its surface area is farmed organically or biodynamically. The landscapes are unique in that they are planted on contour lines, giving this terroir its own unique character.

AOC since 1982 for its reds and rosés, and since 2005 for its whites. The winegrowers, rallying around the identity of "Faugères, l'appellation Nature schiste", distinguish their great vintages with the label "Faugères Grand Terroir de Schiste". The red wines are powerful, full-bodied and round, with silky tannins. The rosés have floral notes and red fruit aromas, while the whites perfectly express the minerality of this schist terroir.

Fine de Faugères, made from the wines of the appellation, is the first regulated eau-de-vie in the Languedoc (it was recognised in 1948 and is now a Geographical Indication for Spirits) and, above all, the only one distilled using a Charentais still known as a "repasse", which produces round, pleasant and complex fines.
